On Friday, September 4, the RiverScape MetroPark in downtown Dayton brings its Summer Music Series to a close with an 80s-themed show under the riverside pavilion. If your family doesn’t mind a short drive, the Ohio Renaissance Festival kicks off its 2026 season with Homecoming Weekend, September 5th through 7th. The event is held in Waynesville, a 30-acre village between Dayton and Cincinnati. Once there, you’ll find jousting, costumed performers, and an artisan marketplace that’ll keep kids and adults occupied all day.
History & Community Events
For those who want to take things a little slower and maybe soak up some history in the process, Carillon Historical Park hosts its Antique Fire Apparatus Show on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
The show is presented by Dayton History and the Miami Valley Antique Fire Apparatus Association and features a family-friendly look at decades of firefighting equipment. Also on the campus is Wright Hall, where you’ll find the original 1905 Wright Flyer III on display. It’s the only airplane designated a National Historic Landmark and serves as a reminder of Dayton’s role in the birth of Aviation.
Beyond the Holiday at Home parade mentioned earlier, Kettering’s festival activities on Sunday and Monday are a Dayton-area tradition dating back to 1959, making the event itself a point of local historical pride.
